Plane a Day 29/06/2011
Trying a different (more "scott robertson"ish) technique. It certainly helped with the foreshortening on the nearside wing

Plane a Day 26/06/2011
Since yesterday was a flying battleship, today is a flying aircraft carrier (which, logic dictates, is the natural replacement).
Of course, this design is based on a zeppelin, rather than mysterious anti-grav propulsion (or Cavorite)
Also unlike the flying battleship, the airship aircraft carrier was actually tried as a concept in the 1920s (although launching and retrieving using a trapeze, a la "Crimson Skies")
Plane a Day 25/06/2011
Ah, the great steampunk cliche, the flying battleship...
Looks good on paper, terrible in practice. Particularly when, like this one, you embrace the design philosophy of "take real dreadnaught, make fly, add greebles".
Yet another reason why Miyazaki is a brilliant vehicle guy

Plane a Day 22/06/2011
This started as just a maintainance droid, but seems to have turned more into a kind of robotic Igor...

Plane a Day 21/06/2011
A sort of flying container-carrier
inspired (directly) by a tower crane, and (indirectly) by straddle carriers

Plane a Day 20/06/2011
Ah, the good old days after Cayley and Lilienthal but before the brothers Wright, when the aeroplane was going to be based on kites and boats and other more outlandish sources...
Sorry about that ^^;

Character development practice
Practicing a few techniques from the d'artiste character design book, using my favourite character from Phillip Reeve's "mortal engines" series of books (which would make an awesome couple of films IMO, but never will :(

Plane a Day 18/06/2011
No idea what this is, but it looks cool :) (you know, I think I might be getting the hang of this "art" malarky...)

Plane a Day 15/06/2011
okay, couple of things on this one...
First off, tried a different technique (marker based) from a book by Doug Chiang ("Mechanika")
For the design, I tried to combine curves and strait lines - not sure how succesful it is. Also, the design is a bit too "clean" for my taste - I think I need to work on my greebles

Plane a Day
Sort of inspired by Scott Robertson, but also a thing to keep my drawing "alive"
Basically, I'm going to try to come up with a pic a day of some sort of vehicle - I know it's called "plane a day", but thats because it's the only name that sounds good.
Anyway, enough waffling, on with the first pic
One gullwing tilt-prop STOL transport aircraft :D (I'll try to keep the technobabble to a minimum, I promise ^^;)

Hovertank modelling start
To practice hard object modelling, I dug up a pic from my archive to try and model
The design is lacking in fine details (such as panel lines, rivets etc) so I'll try and add them to the model
Also, I'm not sure if there are enough greebles in the propulsion system
Anyway, I'm starting with the turret, since it's the focal point of the design
