Major Project: Texturing 1

Using the 3D paint tool in Maya to draw around the rivets, so that I know where they are when I finish texturing in photoshop (although you can get a surprisingly good result with just the 3D paint tool)

Progress so far

Thanks to the ability to reflect, I'm only going to have to draw around ~1000 rivets - this may take a while...

Major Project: Compositing Test

After trying several different methods for adding panel line detail, I've come up with a technique that works

Passes
Beauty Pass

Ambient Occlusion Pass

Shadow Pass
Outline Pass (Contour Rendered)

Final Composite

Major Project: Modelling 9

A.K.A. rivets, rivets, everywhere...

It looks like there'll be ~ 2000 rivets in the finished model

Major Project: Modelling 8

Starting work on the detailed version of the NCO cabin, as a basis for modeling the chief gunner's room.
The combined bed/wardrobe/chest of drawers is all going to be all one piece of geometry, to give the smooth front I need to show that it's a single unit.
Every flat surface has a raised rim, to stop things rolling off.

Major Project: Modelling 7.5

Added a little detail from the original concept sketches (specifically, the tall box-things either side of corridor connection)

Troop and Command Carriages, coupled together

Major Project: Modelling 7

Added the geometry based detail from the exterior development picture

And the Command Carriage

Major Project: Exterior Concept development 2

Troop Carriage:
Command Carriage:

The flag's just for illustration purposes; I need to do some design work to come up with something better.

Major Project: Modelling 6

Added basic armour plating to the locomotive

Major Project: Interior Concept development 7

Another revision of the Commander's cabin
At this rate, I may as well call him "Captain Green" and be done with it...

Major Project: Interior Concept development 6

Another revision of the Chief Gunner's cabin
I must say, I'd never have guessed I'd end up with so many flowers in it when I started...

Major Project: Modelling 5

Now that I've laid out the interior of the crew carriage, I know where the windows and doors go on the outside.  Therefore, I've added them to the block out model, along with the anti-aircraft gun turrets that sit on the roof at each end.
The original design called for the roofline over the ends of the carriage to be lower, but this both restricted the field of fire for the AA turrets, and made the design look rather "squat"; therefore, the roofline has been raised to give a flat top.
Before
After

And for a bit of fun, I put the various updated models into the block-out model I started with, to give
and an above/below comparison
